all together now!
track 126 was another from the furnaces, "oh sweet woods," which namechecks joseph smith, who is also mentioned in title of track 127, warren hixon's "joe smith blues." if you want to hear a drunk warren hixon talk about music (his and others'), check out the arkain indie podcast. usually pretty good stuff.
joseph smith, as you may or may not know, is the founder of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints, aka "the mormons." track 128 was "behold the man" from dear ++ glorious physician, a band made up entirely of mormons! are there other mormon musicians, you ask? how about low (track 129, "be there")? one of the new york dolls is now famously mormon (track 130, "trash"). warren zevon's mom was reportedly mormon (track 131, "raspberry beret") .
too many mormons! but where do they live?
many mormons live in the salty lake, near which is located near the saltair, or "palace of the brine" (track 132, pixies). black francis apparently had a little bit of a thing for the lake...he mentions it again in track 133, "the happening." track 134 was from band of horses who just come right out and say it, "the great salt lake." track 135 was the beach boys, who more or less write off california girls at one point during "salt lake city."
see? religion can be fun!
a little break from the usual today. mark pytlik mentioned in his review of thom yorke's the eraser, that he wouldn't be surprised if you could play thom's and jonny's solo albums simulataneously, to who knows what awesome effect. i decided to try the opening tracks off of each together, and there was enough probably coincidental coincidence that i tried the rest of the tracks. i had high hopes that maybe there was a kiss solo albums/zaireeka project in the works, where each one of the radioheads would put out an album, but that they could be played together for the kickest-ass radiohead experience ever. after listening to these, i don't think that it's gonna happen. anyway, after the obligatory linking tracks, you'll find the downmix of the eraser and bodysong in its (their) entirety. tell me what you think.
